Micro Cultivation in the heart of Victoria, British Columbia

Located in Victoria West, a stones throw from the Inner Harbour on Vancouver Island.

Our Facility

The Victoria Cannabis Company is comprised of two micro-cultivation facilities, one nursery and one Farmgate Cannabis Retail Store. This fosters our ability to enrich the Canadian cannabis market with the finest quality product that our skilled team can yield. We grow traditional quality BC craft cannabis on Vancouver Island in the territory of Lekwungen (Songhees Nations).

It is all about the cure

Hang Dry

Hang Drying cannabis is a widely preferred ethos among cultivators due to several key advantages:

Hanging whole plants or branches allows buds to maintain their natural shape, preventing the flattening that can occur with other drying methods.

Suspending plants ensures better air circulation around the buds, facilitating a more uniform drying process and reducing the risk of mold or mildew development.

Hang-drying typically extends the drying period to about 7-10 days, allowing chlorophyll and other compounds to break down more thoroughly. This result is a smoother smoke and improved flavour profile.

By drying plants in a dark environment, exposure to light is minimized, preserving cannabinoids and terpenes that contribute to a plants aroma and potency

Hand Trim

While hand trimming is labor intensive and time consuming, the benefits in terms of product quality often outweighs the drawbacks, especially for small scale growers and those targeting premium markets. Key Qualities:

  • Trichome Preservation
  • Customized Aesthetics
  • Quality Control
  • Enhanced Flavour and Aroma

Cold Cure

Cold curing cannabis buds involves drying and curing them at low temperatures, a method that offers several notable benefits:

Cold curing helps retain volatile terpenes responsible for the plant’s aroma and flavour, resulting in a mere aromatic and flavourful product.

Lower temperatures minimize the degradation of cannabinoids, maintaining the plant’s potency and therapeutic properties.

The cold environment inhibits mold and bacterial growth, ensuring a cleaner and safer final product.

Cold curing helps maintain the buds natural colour and structure, resulting in a more visually appealing product.

Hand selected and packed

The sorting of flowers starts in the trim room. Buds are sorted by size, by the trim team, into 2 totes; apical flowers and smalls. Apical flower is defined by us as anything over 2.5cm in length. Everything else is considered “small” and will be destined for a pre roll. Once the apical flower arrives in the packaging room, the team carefully hand selects buds that will go into the desired package. Getting 2 levels of human selecting, helps to ensure that the package is of the highest possible quality.

VCC PRE-ROLL PROCESS

Recognize & Respect the Roll

Our pre rolls are hand touched by no less than three human beings before being released. From the grind, hand sift, cultivar specific cycle times, environmental control loss mitigation to the  hand twist and snip, we create the best possible craft pre roll.

Grind
All biomass is evaluated on its density and moisture. An environmental assessment is completed to ensure humidity levels are in-line with potential moisture loss during the grinding process.
Sift
The consistency of the ground biomass is evaluated and an appropriate sifting screen size is chosen. The flower is then spun on the sifting screen to allow the processing tech to gently hand sieve all of the stems, separating them out of the ground flower.
Pack
Not all flower packs properly at the same rate. VCC makes sure that cycling times are set in accordance with the ground flowers consistency to insure the perfect pack for the cleanest burn.

Genotype Hunting

At the Victoria Cannabis Company hunting for new and unique flavour profiles is an obsession.

We believe there is a balance between maintaining tried and trusted profiles developed in the Legacy Market with that of creating and discovering new flavours not yet available.  For us, flavour comes first and lab results come second.  If a plant hits, it hits. No arbitrary THC metrics, flowering times or yield weights guide what we want to share with our consumers.
